Nuclear Missile Silo Converted To Luxury Home
Located in the Adirondack Mountains in Saranac, New York, this unique property with its own FAA-approved airstrip was converted to a luxury home from an nuclear missile silo.
During the Cold War, this Saranac site was part of the Atlas missile system developed by the United States government. The underground missile silo contained the Atlas F missile which was connected to an underground missile launch control center.
Portable Hotel Made From Shipping Containers
Transportable temporary hotel accommodation “Snoozebox” is an innovative way to bring guest services to large events in almost any location. Made from recycled shipping containers, the two-tiered Snoozebox mobile hotel can be assembled within 48 hours, and can be transported by road, rail, air or sea.
Each room has its own ensuite bathroom, a flat screen TV, internet access, thermostatically controlled air conditionally and heating, spacious storage unit, and key card entry.
Snoozebox has even been given permission by Queen Elizabeth II to be placed inside the grounds of Windsor Castle during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations!
Groundscraper Hotel InterContinental Shimao Shanghai Wonderland
Designers at British engineering firm Atkins have come up with the most imaginative idea for a hotel. This stunning “groundscaper” hotel to be built is an ambitious project by Shimao Property Group and Atkins. Located 30 miles from Shanghai, in an abandoned quarry in Songjiang, China, the luxury resort will have 16 floors below the surface of the earth, and 3 stories above ground.
Prague Dancing Building
The Dancing Building or Dancing House in downtown Prague, Czech Republic, is a non-traditional and unique piece of architecture. The nickname Dancing Building or Fred and Ginger, given to the Nationale-Nederlanden Building, reflects the shape of the building which resembles a pair of dancer. The unusual architecture was designed by Croatian-Czech architect Vlado Milunić in co-operation with Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry.
Hobbit House of Montana
The Hobbit House is a unique guest resort in Trout Creek, Montana for those who love the world created by J.R.R. Tolkien. Fans of Lord of the Rings can relax in a 1,000-square-foot guesthouse that is partially underground. The owners, Steve and Christine Michaels, spent about US$410,000 to build the Hobbit House and the entire miniature mystical Shire.
Cube Houses Rotterdam
Designed by architect Piet Blom, these unusual looking residential Cube Houses located on Overblaak Street in Rotterdam in The Netherlands are based on the concept of “living as an urban roof”. The houses are tilted 45 degrees in a hexagon-shaped pylon. There are 38 small cubes with two super-cubes all connected together. One owner decided to open a “show cube” due to the curiosity of passers-by making this something of a tourist attraction. A Dutch hostel chain Stayokay converted the larger cubes into a hostel.
