This private house in Safed, Israel was a preservation and regeneration project by Henkin Shavit Architecture and Design. The original old stone building in the shape of the Hebrew letter “Chet” surrounds an inner courtyard.
The new redesign is a balance of old and new. Original elements such as lime-stones, arches, vaults and niches have been preserved, and new materials such as concrete, mosaics, steel and tin threshing, as well as transparent and semi-transparent glass give the home a fresh modern character.
