Perched on a 20-acre hilltop in Greenwich, Connecticut, a historic stable and carriage house has been reinvented into a modern masterpiece. The property offers breathtaking views and a unique blend of old-world charm and contemporary design.
Christopher Pagliaro Architects (formerly Pagliaro Bartels Sajda Architects) masterfully rejuvenated this property, drawing inspiration from its rich industrial heritage.
The exterior design retains the original stonework, enhanced with modern additions of glass and slate. The garage, a striking flat-roofed, translucent box, offers glimpses of its steel structure at each corner. The distinctive rounded chimneys are elegantly clad in roof slate.
Inside, the architect’s design seamlessly integrates steel elements throughout the home. Thin, exposed riveted steel columns define the living spaces, paying homage to the structure’s historical roots while fostering a contemporary atmosphere.
