Dutch architect Arjen Reas was given the challenge to design a family home in Zoetermeer, The Netherlands, on the edge of the city where urban life and rural open land meet. The result is a contemporary family home that blends traditional ideas with contemporary design. The interior of the house is modern and natural providing a peaceful and open atmosphere for the family who can also fully enjoy the rural landscape in the comfortable open backyard.
The architecture and interior design of the Sugamo Shinkin Bank in Tokiwadai, Tokyo, Japan sought to create a relaxing and refreshing space for customers. Architect Emmanuelle Moureaux arranged 14 different colours in a distinctive rhythmical pattern for the windows of the building, and designed silhouettes of trees for the façade. A constellation of leaves in 24 different colours are painted on the interior walls and glass windows, blending with the real trees in the courtyards.

The rehabilitation of the city of Beirut, Lebanon has inspired famed Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron to design Beirut Terraces. Situated in the prestigious Beirut Central District, this apartment tower is made up of slabs overlapping each other, with hanging gardens on every floor, creating a vertical village that blends the indoor and outdoor, views and privacy, landscape with architecture. The building’s extensive balconies allow natural light to come through, making it truly energy efficient. Due for completion in 2013, Beirut Terraces represents part of Beirut’s future with its contemporary waterfront living experience.
